Tokyo, Sep 14: Ace Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth was crashed out of the men's singles event after losing a marathon three-game quarterfinal, ending India's campaign at the Japan Open badminton tournament here on Friday.
The 25-year-old lose 21-19, 16-21, 18-21 against Korea's Lee Dong Keun in a closely contested match that lasted an hour and 19 minutes. Former world no. 1 Srikanth, who won a silver at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, had earlier lifted a straight game win in the previous round.
Earlier, third seed Indian player PV Sindhu had suffered a shocking exit after she lost to Chinese shuttler Gao Fangjie 18-21, 19-21 in their pre-quarters clash of the women's singles event.
Another Indian shuttler HS Prannoy also crashed out of the tournament after losing 14-21, 17-21 to Indonesia's Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in the pre-quarters round of the tournament. (UNI)
