Kolkata, Sep 12: Mohun Bagan on Wednesday regained the Calcutta Football League (CFL) for premier division after a gap of eight years with a brace from Henry Kisekka against Calcutta Customs in 2-0 result at home ground ending arch rivals Quess East Bengal's past eight years supremacy in domestic football opening seasons.
Striker Henry Kisekka's goals in opening four minutes and seconds before the water break gave the Mariners the first CFL in eight years and 30 times in all since their first win in 1939. Before today' win Mohun Bagan last won the CFL in 2009. The clinching of CFL comes a match with hand with 26 points from ten games.
Coach Sankarlal Chakraborty had fielded his first choice lineup in a 4-4-2 formation with Sankar Roy under the bar. The Mariners dominated the whole proceeding and did all in first half scoring two goals.
Henry Kisekka scored his fifth goal of the campaign after beautifully chest-trapping Bagui’s long ball from the right flank. Mohun Bagan dominated in every angle with attacking forays with Pintu Mahata and Bagui combined well on the right wing and on the other side, Britto and Ambekar complimented each other magnificently.
Mohun Bagan will play their concluding match against Mohammedan Sporting at the Yuva Bharati Krirangan on September 18, an academic interest for the score sheet. (UNI)
