US Open: Djokovic enters semi, Bopanna loses

Two-time champion Novak Djokovic ended the challenge of Australian sensation John Millman on Wednesday night and entered into the semi-finals of the US Open.

Millman, who eliminated Roger Federer in the tournament earlier, failed to repeat the same magic against Djokovic. The gruelling three set encounter almost lasted for three hours (6-3,6-4, 6-4). Despite losing, Millman's performance left a lasting impression on aspiring professional tennis players.

Meanwhile, Kei Nishikori overcame seventh seed Marin Cilic in a gruelling five-set match to reach the US Open semi-finals. The 28-year-old Kei Nishikon will play Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals.

India's hope Rohan Bopanna crashed out of the tournament in Men's doubles. Rohan Bopanna and France’s Edouard Roger-Vasselin have crashed out of the Men’s doubles at the quarter-final stage. The Indo-French pair who were seeded 15th at the tournament came into the quarter-final high on confidence, but had their task cut out against more able and higher seeded opponents in Robert Farah and Juan Sebastian Cabal from Colombia.

In women’s singles, Japan's Naomi Osaka reached her first Grand Slam semi-final with a victory over Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko at the US Open in New York.

Defending champion Jamie Murray reached a third US Open mixed doubles final with a narrow semi-final victory. Jamie Murray and his American partner Bethanie Mattek-Sands beat American duo Christina McHale and Christian Harrison in a championship tie-break, coming through 6-4, 2-6, 10-8.
