Belgium on Saturday finished third in the World Cup place play-off by defeating England by 2-0, Eden Hazard and Thomas Meunier scored goals and clinched victory for Belgium. Gareth Southgate's team were unable to come out of the despair of Wednesday's extra-time loss against Croatia in the semi-final in Moscow.
Belgium seemed to be aggressive in the match and also took a lead in the fourth minute, when Thomas Meunier scored a goal. Earlier also, Belgium thrashed England 1-0 in a group match in the tournament. Both teams settled at 1-0 at halftime. Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku missed two chances and was substituted without scoring.
Belgium attempted 12 shots of which four were on target, while England six shots were on target of 15 shots. This is Belgium's best finish in a World Cup, having previously finished fourth in 1986. UNI
