Eighteen-year-old Assamese girl Hima Das has made India proud by clinching gold in women's 400m final race in the IAAF world cup Under-20 Athletics Championship here.
The sprinter, on Thursday, scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman to win a gold medal at world level. Celebrations broke out in the Indian camp when Das, a pre-tournament favourite, clocked 51.46s to clinch the yellow metal.
A jubiliant Hima Das went through emotional moments while stood on the winners' podium. "Bringing a medal for the country is the biggest achievement and that is why I am very happy. I wanted the Indian national anthem to be played and making that happen made me cry with joy," said an overwhelming Hima. UNI
