FIFA World Cup: Quarterfinals to begin from Friday

In FIFA World cup 2018, the quarter-final stage will commence on Friday, 06 July.

With each round and each match has been completely unpredictable and saw the exit of many legendary teams such as Germany, Argentina, and Spain, the football fans have already touted this 2018 edition as the best in the history. As the Round of 16 is over, now the eight quarter-finalists are ready to their final battle. The teams that have made it to the last eight are France, Uruguay, Russia, Croatia, Brazil, Belgium, Sweden, and England.

In the first quarter-final, France will take on Uruguay at Nizhny Novgorod at 7.30 PM. 19-year-old Kylian Mbappe is the centre of attraction of this match. He matched Pele's record of becoming the first teenager to score at least twice in a World Cup match. The other two are Uruguay's Suarez and Edinson Cavani. It will now be the battle of two heavyweights.

Brazil will meet Belgium in the second quarterfinal at 11.30 PM in Sochi. This is said to be a final itself. It is predicted that the encounter between the two legendary teams is going to be the most viewed game. Brazil came by weathering Mexican storm. Belgium arrives through an unbelievable comeback game against Japan. Both teams have shown excellent attacking power, so it is expected that the match should be a mouthwatering clash.

On Saturday, England will face Sweden at Samara, while hosts Russia will meet Croatia in Kazan. Sweden might pose a bigger threat to England. The most interesting aspect is to watch English captain Harry Kane who is the front runner for the golden boot to raise his six-goal tally.

This is the first time ever Russia reached into the quarterfinal and that too by beating 2010 world champions Spain. The support of home crowd is the power behind Russian charge. When Croatia takes on Russia, the more weight is given to Croatia but we cannot write off a crowd-backed Russia who are deeply-inspired after the victory against Spain.

The semi-finals will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday. The title clash will be played on the 15th of this month at the Luzhniki Stadium Moscow.
