Yesterday at the $350,000 India Open Badminton tournament, P.V. Sindhu showed her grit and went past Beatriz Corrales of Spain. In a shocking defeat, Sania Nehwal lost to America’s Beiwen Zhang and Carolina Marin lost to Hong Kong’s Cheung Ngan Yi.

In the men’s section too it was a bad day for the Indians as one by one all Gopichand’s boys fell. B. B.Sai Praneeth, Sameer Verma and P. Kashyap all lost their matches. There are no contenders from India in the men’s singles now. It was a disappointing day for Indian spectators at New Delhi. Besides Sindhu’s win, the only other saving grace was the victory of the mixed doubles pair of Pranav Chopra and Sikki Reddy who beat the Chinese Han Chengkai and Cao Tong Wei.
