In the Indian Open Super 500 badminton tournament being held at New Delhi Saina Nehwal, P V Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth won their first round matches while H S Prannoy lost in the opening round.
In the women’s singles Saina defeated Denmark’s Sofie Dahl 21-15, 21-9. Defending champion Sindhu also defeated another Dane Natalia Rhode 21-10, 21-13.
In the men’s singles Srikanth played against Hong Kong’s Lee CheukYiu and defeated him 21-18, 21-18. The 24 year old Srikanth returning after a break owing to injury outplayed Lee convincingly.
The disappointment came when Prannoy lost his match to ShreyanshJaiswal 4-21, 6-21. Prannoy looked uncomfortable from the start as he was plagued by foot corns.
