South Africa won the first test against India by 72 runs on Monday. Indian chase aiming at 208 runs for a victory was soon crumbled and bowled out by 135 run in the second innings. It was South Africa’s Philanders 6/42 helps SA to take 1-0 lead against India.
India could dismiss South Africa for 130 on day 4, once the Indian bowlers taking the advantages of the new moisture in the wicket. India was set a target of 208 to win the match. But Indian batting soon crumbled before South African bowling.
But, Vernon Philander and Morne Morkel removed both the Indian openers to push them on the back foot. Bumrah (3 for 39) and Shami (3 for 28) were the main wreckers-in-chief. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2 for 33) and Hardik Pandya (2 for 27) gave them ample support. And Philander did the rest of the damage for India.
For the Proteas, only two entered double digits on Day 4 as others struggled against the moving ball. It was a lone battle AB de Villiers fought and his fighting 35 could only take the lead to 207.
