Sikkim CM greets Sunuwars on Shydar Pidar festival

Gangtok, May 7: Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has extended warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Sikkim particularly the Sunuwar community on the auspicious occasion of Shyadar Pidar. Shyadar Pidar, also known as ‘Ubhauli Puja’ is one of the most important festivals of the Sunuwar community.

It is celebrated to offer gratitude to nature and seek her blessings for healthy agriculture and general well being in the year ahead. In his message, the Chief Minister has appealed to all to maintain harmony and brotherhood which has been a hallmark of Sikkim. He has also prayed for Sikkim and her people who he hoped will continue to prosper and flourish by the grace of God. The Chief Minister has also requested the community to ‘celebrate it responsibly, keeping in mind the current scenario of COVID-19, where physical distancing is one of the most important forms of defense against the virus’.
