Gangtok, May 5 : State totally under Lockdown so far, has eased out some restrictions at the beginning of third stage, including Taxis. In the first instance Ban on Taxis has been relaxed on Monday through a special order. Sikkim Task Force has issued a fresh order allowing movement of Taxis bearing Odd numbers on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. And those bearing Even numbers have been permitted to ply on Tuesday,Thursday and Saturday.
No Taxis shall be allowed to ply on Sundays. Local Taxis (within the District) will be allowed to carry only 3 passengers in place of 4 earlier.They are expected to carry hand sanitizers in Taxis. No syndicates will be functional for the time being. ‘With the view to mitigate the hardships of the commuters and the need to revive the livelihood of Taxi drivers it has been allowed,’says the order issued by Home Department, Govt of Sikkim, last evening.
Incidentally earlier a social media person had presented the problem of Taxi Drivers to a leader, adding it to his question. Response justified ban on Taxis on the basis of restriction on the movement of public but subsequent pleasant information of lifting the ban on certain conditions has made Drivers happy. (UNI)
