Sikkim quarantines over 2,000, sends 10 samples for testing

Gangtok, Apr 11: Sikkimese population has been adhering to lockdown as far as possible while maintaining Social distancing keeping Coronavirus also at distance.

Though some relaxation of the movement to the hotspots in the neighbourhood for commercial purposes is expected, at the fag end of the first phase, the result is yet to be experienced. Further lockdown or otherwise shall be known tomorrow once the decision is communicated by the Chief Minister after a meeting with the Prime Minister.

Coronavirus testing has been going on. "10 samples have been sent to North Bengal Medical College Hospital, out of these 2 are from Gayzing West Sikkim and 8 from STNM here. The results are expected on Saturday. So far all the 48 samples sent have tested negative," said Director General cum Secretary Health here today. According to him, 909 persons have also undergone flu clinic tests. About the screening at borders, he added,’ 398 passengers inclusive of drivers, have been screened and 348 vehicles. While 2,943 have been quarantined also. ‘Stay inside, don’t roam around without any reason. Let us all be prepared,’ is the health mantra given by Dr Pempa. UNI
