Sikkimese Nurses stranded in Siliguri : Request for Repatriation

Gangtok,Apr 10: Football icon Bhaichung Bhutia has urged the government to repatriate the stranded Sikkimese in Siliguri, North Bengal as Coronavirus lockdown is about to complete in 21 days ,with possibility of stepping into phase-2.

'‘12 Nurses are stranded in Siliguri,facing lots of issues,8 other people stranded are helpless,besides a few more. If the State Government can arrange Sikkim Government Transport Bus for these people,it will relieve them of their present agony.They could be quarantined in Assam Linzay village quarantine centre ,East Sikkim, like 54 merit scholars,'’ said Bhaichung Bhutia speaking to UNI.

He has been providing ration for those under his notice. One of them Sister Dikkie Doma Lepcha said, ‘We are all jobless now. Due to COVID-19 , treatment facility for the disease ,including Quarantine, has been set up at Dr Chang’s multispeciality hospital,where we were serving. Consequently we are jobless . All 12 of us had to resign . Due to over staying in the rented place ,from 1st April onwards we are in trouble as we do not have the money to pay house rent even. Some of us stay in hostel, but the condition is also not good.If we could be rescued from here. We are ready to be quarantined once in Sikkim. We would request the Sikkim Government to provide us conveyance from Siliguri to Gangtok’,said Dikkie Lepcha,( Nurse).(UNI)
