Gangtok, Dec 23: Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ welfare Narendra Singh Tomar praised the joint venture of State Government and IFFCO at Rangpo East Sikkim at the foundation stone laying ceremony of Sikkim Indian Farmers’ Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (SIFFCO). Addressing the gathering on yesterday, he said the effort made by Indian Farmers’ Fertiliser Cooperative (IFFCO) and State Government will be strengthening organic agriculture in State and the country. He stressed on anticipated capability of SIFFCO to provide livelihood to the local farmers. ’It will help boost the economy of the North Eastern States,’ the minister said.
Earlier, Chief Minister PS Tamang laid the foundation stone of two Integrated Processing units of Sikkim IFFCO organics at Rangpo.
He said, it is a joint venture which will get proper market for farmers. The integrated processing units will take to packaging, processing high value organic produce and sell them in national and international level.
Those were present in the occasion including Speaker LB Das, State Agriculture Minister LN Sharma and Dr US Awasthi, MD IFFCO, all the concerned officers. (UNI)
