Gangtok, Nov 3: President Ram Nath Kovind on Sunday attended the Convocation ceremony of Sikkim University at Manan Kendra here.
The President awarded gold medals to 11 scholars of 2019 batch, including six female and five male students.
In his Convocation address, the President appreciated the recent achievements of the University and efforts to preserve the endangered languages of the state. "Higher Education is one of the subjects, I am particularly interested in. During my tenure, Higher Education has been a priority area. Hence, meeting the students of Sikkim University has been a happy experience!’ said President Ram Nath Kovind.
The President congratulated all the 1,556 students and researchers, mentioning the responsibilities and challenges.
He praised Sikkim for wonderful achievements in the field of Tourism, Cleanliness, Health, Education, Organic Farming and united society.
Chancellor Major General (rtd) Dr DB Shekatkar presided over the Convocation ceremony.
Governor of Sikkim Ganga Prasad, Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, his Cabinet and Vice-Chancellor Prof Avinash Khare were also present at the Convocation. Immediately after the convocation, the President left for his onward visit to Meghalaya. (UNI)
