Gangtok, Aug 25 : Sikkim Governor Ganga Prasad assured the delegation of 10 BJP MLAs about his decision to forward their memorandum for reversal of Centre’s notification opening Mt Khangchendzonga ascent for Tourists.
The Legislators led by MLA DT Lepcha called on Governor Ganga Prasad and told him that the announcement on ascent of certain peaks has not been received well by Sikkimese people. Notification on Trekking and climbing Mountain peaks sacred to them has been leading to considerable backlash .
They have informed the Governor about emotions and religious feelings attached to Mt Khangchendzonga through the memorandum presented to him.
The BJP delegation have requested for reconsideration of the notification to suit the religious sentiments .
The delegation stated that ‘People of State would highly appreciate if the sanctity of the peak is maintained and climbing on Mt Khangchendzonga is disallowed.’ (UNI)
