Gangtok,Jan 27: Founder of Sikkim Viklang Sahayata Samiti Draupdi Ghimirey has been approved by President Ram Nath Kovind for conferment of Padma Shri.

Ms Ghimirey has been striving hard to help the Persons With Disabilities(PWD). Believing in inclusive society and need for mainstreaming the PWD, she has helped numerous children and youth.

She has arranged several cleft lip, cleft palate and burn repair surgeries with the support of plastic surgeon Dr Satya Saraswat of Agra.

Through her association with Dr Saraswat, many PWD in the state have received artificial limbs.

Ms Ghimirey has also been a vital support for the physically challenged in finding employment and earning livelihood. Some of them have been trained in making artificial limbs at her centre while some others are involved with khada(scarf used for greeting people traditionally) making at a unit which she has created solely for them.

Ms Ghimirey is delighted being chosen for the prestigious award and she is looking forward to receiving it from the President at the Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi. (UNI)
