Angel Zomato......

Durgadas P.V.

As usual, SK and family finished their simple dinner at about 9 pm. His daughter opined about a drive to Ambrosia for an ice cream. It was vetoed by her mother as it would late by the time they return. Daughter's suggestion to call Zomato for ice cream was approved in one voice as the whole family had heard a lot about it. The ice creams were delivered promptly and the payment was taken through credit card as he had brought a swiping machine. Within 9.45 pm they could relish the ice cream of their choice and get engaged in their own activities. All of them enjoyed it especially the little son who could see the Kochu TV without any break.

The second call to Zomato went from the house after two days. Then it was for the dinner itself. All the four in the family got their own choices. The frequency slowly increased. Within a month’s time the whole family started enjoying the luxury of Zomato, Swiggy, Uber eats, etc. to the fullest extent. SK also found it convenient to order for his favorite spicy items in happy hours after 10 pm on "spiritual" evenings.

Since they had LPG connection with two cylinders, earlier it was ensured that at least one full cylinder was always on standby. But of late, the booking for refill was not as prompt as it used to be. Slowly the credit card bill started rising. At last, when SK got a  really heavy bill after a festival month when they had guests for almost for three weeks, he started realising that the kitchen at home was almost closed barring the morning tea and breakfast. When he started shouting at others, no one was prepared to take the blame. When SK proclaimed restrictions for the free use of Zomato, Uber eats, etc. all other members of the family pounced on him like addicts showing withdrawal symptoms......! That night, the young one had decided to order for special Oreo milk shake. The elder one had already invited her friend for sharing Shewarma. Lady of the house wanted to try out something in veg. The daily noting board was full of preferred choices with dates like a work schedule in a shop floor.

SK had to succumb to the nagging and allow others to order the food for a few more days. But to create a pressure on them he refrained from ordering anything for himself. He stopped calling his friends for a peg or so which he was used to.

SK felt happy when his office asked him to go for a temporary duty to native town where his sister and family lived. The old family house in which he grew up was now occupied by his sister and family. He always loved to go there to enjoy the culinary expertise of his mother and sister......!That night he made a caustic comment on the situation and said that he would enjoy the homely delicacies at his sister's place for a week. He really looked forward to it. He started on Monday morning and attended the work during day time and hired an auto to reach his sister's house by dinner time. As the auto entered the narrow lane leading to his sister's house a couple of motorcycles came ahead with speed and the auto driver had to halt to give way to them. SK could make out that they were returning from his sister's place since the lane led to only one house. SK thought it might be his nephew or so. He stopped and entered into dialogue with them. They answered that they had since delivered dinner at the house inside. Today they had ordered for a guest also........!. As they drove past, SK looked at their back ......The " Swiggy " sign of inverted drop was clearly visible.......SK could relish the food as it had a different taste. Moreover he didn't have to pay for it......

Next day, he got up early in the morning and went to his family temple. After paying obeisances to the deity, he went to meet the head priest who was known to him for years. The priest was seen discussing with someone. They were negotiating the price of some item to be supplied at the temple before 4 pm as the temple would open at five. Later while talking to SK, the priest admitted that he was confirming the order for evening's offering to the deity as there was a booking for " vada mala "* for the Anjaneya...

SK walked back quickly to his sister's house..... While doing so, he told himself......" Godly Zomatos ".......

* Garland made of fixed number of vadas generally made black gram dal which is considered as an important offering to Hanuman ( Anjaneya/Maruti).....
