Children, all over the world, there are many thoughts about giving women equal status in all fields and ranks. We must see this as the beginning of a change. For far too long women have had to silently suffer. Today, even in countries that claim to be progressive, cultural aware and broadminded, we find issues of prejudice against women.
Perhaps, the past has fixed in the minds of men false pride and egotistical thoughts like, “Surely I am better than any woman.” However, women have their own thoughts: “All this time, men have controlled and tortured us into submission. We have to teach them a lesson.” All such thoughts and competition have to go. As long as men and women do not mutually respect one another, they will remain like two banks of a river without a bridge to connect them.
Once there was a wedding. The next step was to make the marriage official by signing the registry. First, the husband signed his name. Next came the wife’s turn. As soon as the wife signed, the husband loudly said, “It’s over! All over! I want a divorce right now!” Everyone was dumbfounded. The registrar asked, “What nonsense are you saying? Why are you asking for a divorce?”
The groom said, “Open your eyes and look. Look at my signature—so small and contained. Look at hers. See how big it is! Will anyone sign filling the entire page? I understand the meaning of this. She wants to belittle me in life too. That is not going to happen. I did not enter marriage to be belittled.” Like this, men and women often make missteps right from the start of their relationships.
Women need to move forward, but they should look back from time to time as well. They need to remember that there is a child walking right behind them. They must show patience towards their children. A mother cannot only give her child space in her womb; she must make sure she always keeps a space for it in her heart as well.
Men and women must know and accept each other’s abilities and limitations and become each other’s support and companions. The best way is to win over someone else is with humility and love. Only when both men and women rise side by side and act with awareness, can we give birth to a new age, filled with love, compassion and prosperity.
