Shastrinagar rape case: Internet ban extended

Jaipur, Jul 3 : Internet services will continue to remain suspended till 10 AM on Saturday as a precautionary measure across 13 police station areas of the Pink City, where people went on the rampage following the recent abduction and rape of a seven-year-old girl in the city.

Issuing an order, Divisional Commissioner K C Verma has extended the temporary restriction on Internet Services 2G / 3G / 4G Data (Mobile Internet), Internet Services, Bulk SMS / MMS, Whatsapp Apps, Facebook, Twitter and other Social Media in 13 police stations (Shastrinagar, Ramganj, Galata Gate, Manak Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Brahmampuri, Nahargarh, Kotwali, Sanjay Circle, Bhatta Basti, Lal Kothi, Adarshnagar and Sadar.

Additional police force has been deployed to maintain law and order in the area and no untoward incident has been reported. On Tuesday, people in the area stormed the local police station demanding action. Some went on a rampage smashing vehicles and window panes for which 16 people have been taken into custody.

The girl was picked up outside her house in Shastri Nagar on Monday evening by a man on a motorcycle who said he was her father's friend. The seven-year-old girl was found two hours later near the Amanishah canal that runs through the city, about 15 kms away. The girl is now being treated at a hospital in Jaipur where her condition is stated to be stable. (UNI)
