Ambedkar has been voted as The Greatest Indian of Modern India. Born in 1891, he was an Indian polymath and father of our Constitution. A jurist, economist, politician and reformist he inspired the Dalit Buddhist movement and campaigned against social discrimination towards untouchables. A prolific student, Ambedkar earned doctorates in Economics from both Columbia University and the London School of Economics. He was independent India’s first Law and Justice Minister and the major architect of the Constitution of India.

He died on Dec 6, 1956. He was awarded the Bharat Ratna posthumously in 1990.
