Chandigarh, May 28 : Cracking a whip on shopkeepers charging more than MRP of essentials goods, Punjab Consumer Affairs department has conducted state wide checkings and a total of 1,325 Shops and Chemist Shops have been raided throughout the state.
Stating this here on Thursday, Consumer Affairs and Civil Supplies Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu said the Legal Metrology department has imposed penalties worth Rs 11,02,000.
Emphasising on the need to curb the menace of overpricing, Mr Ashu said that the department has received seven complaints regarding charging of overpricing of essential commodities Prompt action has been taken. Total 186 cases have been booked under various provisions of Packaged Commodities Regulation Rules under Legal Metrology Act 2009 and compounding has been done in 176 cases. The Minister said the department is diligently working to ensure that the essential commodities must be sold at MRP or below it. (UNI)
