Moga, May 21 : Nearly 5,000 litres of lahan, a raw material used for making liquor, was seized in a village here, Dharamkot Police said on Thursday. SSP Moga said, "Acting on a tip off, a police team raided a village on the bank of Gatti Jattan and found three men with the raw material. On seeing police the accused jumped into the river and fled away." Lahan, a yellow coloured viscose is a raw material for producing illicit liquor and it has to be distilled on a fire.
It contains ethyl alcohol. Police seized 76 bottles of liquor from seven different bootleggers in its further raids and arrested two accused identified as Ravi Kumar and Major Singh on Wednesday.
At a time when liquor vends are closed due to the lockdown imposed to contain the coronavirus outbreak, the business of bootleggers in states of Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir has flourished. (UNI)
