Jalandhar, May 13 : With affirmative response to the new Pratappura vegetable and fruit market situated on Jalandhar-Barnala Highway, the Punjab Mandi Board on Wednesday initiated the construction work of approach roads in the market.

The work was started in the presence of Chairman, Market Committee Jalandhar Cantonment Harbhupinder Singh Samra, District Mandi Officer Davinder Singh Kainth and others. Divulging the details, Mr Samra said that to decongest the fruits and vegetable market at Maqsudan, this new market was started as an alternative on May 6 by Cantt MLA Pargat Singh. He said the opening of the vegetable and fruit market here has helped immensely to minimise the flocking in Maqsudan market, which was a cause of concern, in the wake of Novel Coronavirus.

The Chairman said that this market has benefited the farmers and people from Nakodar, Shahkot, Kapurthala, Jalandhar Cantonment and adjoining areas, as they were now coming here, rather than going to Maqsudan for buying and selling the fruits and vegetables. Mr Samra said that the construction work of approach roads would be completed within a few days. On the occasion, Mandi Board Executive Engineer Gurinderjeet Singh Cheema, SDO Baldev Raj, Kewal Singh, Paramjeet Singh and others were also present. (UNI)
