Chandigarh, May 13: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab spokesman and MLA Kultar Singh Sandhwan on Tuesday described the Punjab government's action against the former DGP Sumedh Singh Saini in a sensitive case registered 29 years later for allegedly killing the son of a former IAS officer, as mere drama.

In a statement issued from party headquarters on Tuesday, Sandhwan said that a common man was picked up by the police immediately after registration of an FIR against him or her, alleging how influential persons like Sumedh Singh Saini were given leeway from being arrested immediately after being booked in the case by seeking bail? "We have unflagging faith in the law of the land and respect the decisions of the courts, but the question here was why the police and the law dispensing agencies fail to extend empathy for a common man and allow the high and mighty to have their way,'' he said.

The AAP leader said that despite the controversial and tainted background of Sumedh Singh Saini, how could he escape arrest despite being involved in serious and sensitive cases. “The role played by Sumedh Singh Saini in his capacity as then DGP in the desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib and Behbal Kalan-Kotkapura shoot-out incidents could not be forgotten, saying that the blue-eyed boy of the Badals, Sumedh Singh Saini remained all-time darling of Amarinder Singh,'' he added.(UNI)
