Corona count mounts to 63 with nine new cases reported in 24 hrs in Jalandhar

Jalandhar, Apr 23: Sharp increase of nine new corona positive cases in a single day in the district has left not only the state government but the district civil, police and health administration also a worried lot.

Tally in the district with these new nine cases has jumped to 63. Samples of these patients were tested positive at the Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital Faridkot, a constituent of Baba Farid University of Health Sciences Faridkot. First new case surfaced early Thursday morning was reported from the Jawala Nagar colony of Maksoodan from where a 65-year-old woman was brought to the civil hospital and as the time passed, eight new cases, those too related to the Maksoodan area came in as soon a report of eight corona suspects came positive according to a tweet of the special Chief Secretary KBS Sidhu.

The administration sealed the entire area of Maksoodan after the report of nine new corona positive cases. Two persons, including a 62-year-old woman of Shahkot have died so far due to corona in the district. In the meanwhile, the administration has allowed both the two private hospitals Metro Hospital and HP Arthocare Hospital to begin their operation after the test reports of all the doctors and paramedical staff came negative. Both these hospitals were ordered to be shut down after an employee of a media house visited the hospitals, turned out to be positive. Doctors at these hospitals have advised him to get him checked from the civil hospital as they have no testing facility at the hospitals.

Jalandhar Mayor Jagdish Raj Raja, Congress MLA Rajinder Beri and more than 30 councilors have put themselves under self quarantine after the report of Harpreet Singh, an OSD of the Mayor came positive on Tuesday. Mayor, MLA and the councilors were part of the group engaged in the distribution of ration to the needy. Areas in and around the residences of the Mayor and MLA in Shakti Nagar and Central town respectively have also been sealed. (UNI)
