Amritsar, Oct 29 : Senior IAS officer and alumnus of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) Dr Sukhbir Singh Sandhu on Monday took over as Chairman of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).
Dr Sandhu did his MBBS from Government Medical College, Amritsar and Master’s degree in History from GNDU. He is also a law graduate. A 1988 batch Uttarakhand cadre IAS officer, he held important positions at the Centre and the Governments of Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. He was Additional Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development and also looked after Technical Education.
He has a vast experience in the field of state roads, infrastructure development, PPP projects, finance, urban development, environment, health and family welfare, tourism, revenue administration, rural development, power, new and renewable energy, information technology, industries and science and technology. Dr Sandhu has been a regular speaker at LBS National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA), Mussoorie and also delivered a talk on ‘de-stressing Indian cities’ at Harvard Business School, Boston, USA, on invitation.
He was conferred the President medal in recognition of his services as Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Commissioner. He is related to GNDU Vice Chancellor Dr Jaspal Singh Sandhu who also is an alumnus of the university. (UNI)
