Sirsa police nabbed 773 persons, registered 464 cases

Chandigarh, Sep 23: Haryana police has registered 464 cases and arrested 773 persons under NDPS Act in Sirsa alone during a special anti-drug drive against drug-peddlers in the past 10 months.

Stating this here on Monday, a police department spokesman said huge quantity of narcotics, including over 6.55 kg heroin, 16.936 kg opium, over 2136 kg poppy husk, 26.966 kg ganja, more than 3.46 lakh prohibited pharma pills and over 1.04 lakh intoxicant capsules were seized from the possession of arrested accused during this period.

Following the directives of Director General of Police Manoj Yadava, he said that crackdown on drug-peddlers was being conducted on daily basis in the district especially in the bordering areas with Rajasthan and Punjab.

People of the district are also supplementing the police efforts in this direction, he said. The crackdown was launched with the prime objective on seizing illegal drugs and tightening the noose on these involved in the peddling them. The DGP also lauded the efforts of Sirsa Senior Superintendent of Police Dr Arun Singh and his entire team for freeing the district of drug menace.

People in the district are being encouraged to fearlessly share information against the sale, consumption and use of narcotics and help the police to completely curb it from the society. Apart from taking stern action against drug peddlers, police is also making thew general public aware about the ill effects of drug addiction by organising various seminars. (UNI)
