Chandigarh, Aug 27 : The Punjab State Seeds Corporation (PSSC) will provide approximately 25 thousands quintal high quality seed of the wheat crop free of cost to the flood-hit farmers for Rabi season, an official spokesperson said here on Tuesday.
As per the initial crop damage reports, hundred per cent crop damage has been reported in about 25,000 hectares of farm land. Going by an average, nearly one quintal seed is required per hectare.
Further seed disbursement, if required, would be made subject to the final damage report. The high quality seed of the wheat crop which costs around Rs 3,000 per quintal, will be provided free of cost to the affected farmers.
This would support the farmers of about 30 villages of Shahkot subdivision of Jalandhar district which is submerged in the flood water. (UNI)
