Chandigarh, Aug 25 : In the wake of damage to the Tendiwala embankment due to heavy discharge of water from the Pakistan side, the strengthening work of the embankment was being undertaken on war footing, informed an official spokesperson of Punjab government on Sunday.
Ferozepur District administration is on high alert while precautionary deployment of NDRF and Army teams has been made. Sand filled gunny bags have been stacked, informed the spokesman.
In water first goes to Pakistan from Ferozepur district and then comes back to Ferozepur and this phenomenon takes place multiple times creating a Zig-Zag movement. But Pakistan has released water in huge quantity, damaging embankments in village Tendiwala and looming danger of floods on various villages.
Being on guard, the district administration has announced evacuation in most sensitive villages along the River Sutluj. (UNI)
