Chandigarh, Aug 12 : Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Permanent Invitee M M Singh Cheema on Monday welcomed the Congress Working Committee (CWC)'s decision to form five regional groups to ascertain the views of Congressmen from all the states for selection of new AICC president and finally appointing Ms Sonia Gandhi as Interim AICC president.
Mr Cheema termed the decision a ''welcome'' sign in view of the present surcharged political circumstances, when BJP-led NDA government is widely perceived as one man army and two men party is pushing all the decisions, which should have been taken by consensus, a very bad precedent is being set up.
In a statement here, the Congress leader said this decision of wider consultation in Congress party in extreme circumstances of political uncertainty has shown the light to democratic forces leading to a good acceptable decision in the available circumstances.
He said it is high time for the Congress party to keep the hopes alive of millions of people and those who are on the verge of losing faith in democratic systems, appointment of new Interim AICC president Sonia Gandhi with inclusive consultative decision to fight the extreme forces will go a long way as there is a subtle move in the incumbent setup for paving the way for Presidential form of democracy which will be disastrous for a large country like India having a large spectrum of regional differentiations.
