Chandigarh, Aug 5 : CPI(M) Punjab unit state secretary Sukhwinder Singh Sekhon on Monday condemned the Modi-led BJP government for ''murdering democracy and federalism'' in Jammu and Kashmir by scrapping Article 370 of the Constitution and dismantling the state.
In a statement here, Ms Sekhon said the people of Kashmir had acceded to India with a solemn commitment by the Indian State to provide them with special status and autonomy which was embodied in Article 370.
He said the CPI(M) denounced these measures taken by the Modi government as they are illegal and unconstitutional.
The CPI(M) leader said this is the time to stand with the people of the state and mobilise them to resist this onslaught on the Constitution and federalism.
He said that the Left parties would hold protest demonstrations all over the state and appealed to all democratic-minded people to join the All-India Protest Day called by the Left parties on August 7. The demand will be 'Stop the Destruction of the State of Jammu & Kashmir & Defend Article 370 of the Constitution.'(UNI)
