Moga, Aug 3: A youth shot dead five of his family members and later killed himself later on Friday night, sources said here.

The incident took place at Nathuwala west village of Baghapurana Subdivision of Moga district. The accused Sandeep Singh (28) first shot dead his father Manjeet Singh (55) then mother Binder Kaur (50), sister Amanjot Kaur (33), grandmother Gurdeep Kaur (70) and his two-and-a half-year-old niece Maneet Kaur.

Gurcharn Singh, the grandfather of the accused, was critically injured and taken to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in precarious condition. After committing the crime the youth shot himself dead.

According to preliminary investigation, Sandeep's wedding had been fixed for December 2019 but owing to some health issues, he did not wish to marry. This led to his constant quarells with family members.

The family had 25 acre of agriculture land and the accused felt that who will inherit the property, the sources said, adding that the accused has left behind a suicide note. (UNI)
