Chandigarh, Jul 12 : Claiming that proper infrastructure in government schools will boost student enrollment, Punjab Education Minister Vijay Inder Singla on Friday informed that Rs 46.30 crore has been released as composite grant to 18,522 government schools in the state.
Giving details here, he said for 2019-20, under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, Rs 25000 per school has been sanctioned for all primary, middle, high and senior secondary government schools in the state.
This grant is meant for strengthening the school infrastructure by replacing the non-functional equipment, for incurring recurring costs such as consumables, play material, sports/laboratory equipment and teaching materials.
It may also be used for annual maintenance and repair of existing school buildings, toilets, drinking water and other facilities for the upkeep of the infrastructure, he added.
The Minister said that it has been observed that lack of washrooms in schools hampers the enrollment of girl students in the schools. Now, with adequate infrastructure and well-maintained buildings in place, coupled with enhanced focus on improving the quality of education, an upsurge in enrollment is hoped for, Mr Singla added.
