Jalandhar, May 22 : With the district administration finalizing the arrangements for the counting of the votes, the stage was all set for the completion of the counting of votes for the Jalandhar Parliamentary Seat on Thursday. The counting of votes will commence at 8 AM.
The result is likely to come in the afternoon but the trends ware likely to be available right from 9 AM as soon after the counting commences.
Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer Varinder Kumar Sharma and Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that elaborate arrangements have been made for ensuring free, fair and transparent counting of votes for the Lok Sabha polls.
They said that adequate arrangements for security and counting of the votes have been done by the civil and Police administration. Both the officers said that no stone would be left unturned for ensuring that the entire process was completed peacefully.
Both the officers said that for 236 booths of the Phillaur assembly segment counting would be held in 17 rounds, for 247 booths of Nakodar counting would be held in 18 rounds, 18 rounds of counting for 244 booths of Shahkot, 16 rounds for 219 booths of Kartarpur, 12 rounds for 163 booths of Jalandhar West, 12 rounds for 160 booths of Jalandhar Central, 13 for 176 booths of Jalandhar North, 15 for 205 booths of Jalandhar Cantt and 16 for 213 booths of Adampur assembly segment. They said that votes of five Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines from each assembly segment would be counted separately after the counting of votes from Electronic Voting Machines.
They said that the EVM and VVPAT machines were constantly under CCTV surveillance and three tier security was being provided to it by the state Police, Punjab Armed Police and Para Military Force. Likewise they said that in order to ensure law and order situation outside the counting halls, Rapid Action Force, Quick Response Team, Horseback team and others along with the Riot Control Vehicle. They said that strict vigil was being kept to maintain law and order at every cost.
Pertinently, the counting of votes would take place simultaneously at all the counting halls and strong rooms in Jalandhar. The strong room and counting centre for Jalandhar North has been set up at Government Sports School and for the Jalandhar west at Government Sports College. Likewise, the strong rooms for Jalandhar Cantonment, Jalandhar Central, Adampur, Shahkot and Kartarpur assembly constituencies has been constituted at office of the Director Land Records whereas that of Phillaur and Nakodar assembly segments has been set up at the State Patwar School.
