Agency News

Jalandhar, May 17 : The Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer Varinder Kumar Sharma on Friday asked all the Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) to ensure that no outsider was present in their respective constituencies after the poll campaign came to an end on Friday evening at 6 pm.

In a communique to the AROs on Friday, the Deputy Commissioner said that the Assistant Returning Officers must get an FIR registered against the outsiders if they continue to stay in the assembly segments after the election campaign ended. He said that the move was aimed at restricting the presence of political functionaries, party workers, procession functionaries and campaign functionaries, who have been brought from outside the Parliamentary constituency for campaigning.

Mr. Sharma said that the district and Police administration was duty-bound to ensure that all functionaries, who were not the voters, leave Jalandhar Parliamentary constituency immediately after the campaign ends for the general poll 48 hours, before the polling day i.e May 19th.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the civil and police administration must keep a close check on the community centers, guest houses and lodges to keep a track of the list of occupants besides setting up check posts in constituency borders and track vehicular movement from outside the constituency.

Mr. Sharma said that any violation could be directly brought to the Assistant Returning Officers or the other election related officer’s notice, so that required action could be taken against the erring persons. Reiterating the firm commitment of the district administration to ensure free, fair and transparent polls in Jalandhar, he said that no stone would be be left un-turned for this noble cause, adding that people should come and vote independently without any fear.
