Hoshiarpur, May 17 : Hardline outfit Dal Khalsa on Friday joined issue with Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh for his declaration to make the sedition law stricter in case the Bharatiya Janata Party retains power.
In a statement here, the Dal Khalsa said it believes that while vibrant and mature democracies have done away with sedition laws long back, the Narendra Modi dispensation has plans to make its provisions more draconian, to stifle dissent and independent belief.
Dal Khalsa spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh asserted that since long, the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh has an agenda to impose Hindutva culture on the people of this country, who are historically, religiously and linguistically separate and different from the majority community.
RSS, through the BJP government, needs draconian laws like sedition to silence dissent, particularly those, who aspire to achieve their own self-rule in their respective states, he alleged.
On the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for May 19 in Punjab, the Dal Khalsa spokesman averred that the party would not participate in this electoral charade of democracy, where money, liquor, drugs and all arms of the state work in tandem. (UNI)
