Badal (Mukatsar), May 11: As campaigning for the Lok Sabha poll entered its last week in Punjab, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Saturday upped the ante daring the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to choose between his community and his party on the grave issue of massacre of thousands of innocent Sikhs by 'Congress goons' in 1984.
"You stand against your community on this question of life and death for the Sikhs is disgraceful. You want to run with the hare and hunt with the hounds. It won't work, " said Mr Badal lashing out against Amarinder's "pathetic attempts " to shield Rajiv Gandhi.
While addressing media at his Badal residence, the Akali supremo said,"Not only every Sikh but the whole world knows and believes that Rajiv Gandhi not only ordered the massacre of Sikhs in 1984 but even justified it with that shameful remark about the Earth trembling after a big tree falls. But you claim that both Rajiv and the Congress party are innocent. Are you suggesting that millions of Sikhs who hold Rajiv guilty are either idiots or liars? Are you with the Sikhs or against the Sikhs on the issue of their tragedy ? And Whose side are you on - the murderers or their victims? " asked Mr Badal reacting to Amarinder's defence of the Congress party and of Rajiv Gandhi.
The SAD president threw a barrage of questions at Amarinder, "Did your party throw any of the leaders named by you out of the party ? Were they not rewarded with tickets and Cabinet berths in the Union Government? Or have you personally ever refused to share the high table with any one of them? Or at least now will you insist that either Pitroda or he (Amarinder) can stay in the Congress? You will do none of it." (UNI)
