Badal (Mukatsar) May 11 : Union Food Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Saturday thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for releasing the second installment of the direct income support scheme to farmers despite hurdles put up by the Congress government which asked the Centre to withhold the money in the name of scrutinising the beneficiaries.
Ms Badal, while addressing a meeting of villagers, said the Centre had earlier released Rs. 2,000 as part of the first installment under the scheme. “Today the union agriculture ministry is releasing the second installment of Rs 2,000 under this scheme to 11.44 lakh farmers. I thank the PM for delivering on his word and releasing the second installment to the State farmers despite the objections of the Congress government”.
The Minister said it was unfortunate that the Congress government was trying to scuttle this scheme as it had done in the case of other central schemes simply because it did not want the NDA to get credit for the same. 'The Congress government has in some cases even refused to disburse central funds received for specific schemes like the SC scholarship scheme, the toilet scheme and for winter uniforms for 12 lakh schoolchildren.'
The Bathinda MP said the Congress government had already defaulted on implementing the Rs 90,000 crore complete loan waiver promise. 'The Congress government has refused to release dues of sugarcane farmers. It did not come to the aid of potato growers who suffered due to glut. It has even not given compensation for crop damage since one year. Now it wanted to come in the way of the Centre’s decision to provide direct aid to the small farmers of Punjab. I thank Modi ji for acting proactively and releasing money under the direct income support scheme to farmers despite all our attempts by the Congress to deny our farmers the benefit”.
