Agency News

Sultanpur Lodhi, Apr 27: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Saturday got a shot in the arm as former international sports star and AAP candidate in the last Assembly elections Sajjan Singh Cheema joined the party, expressing disillusionment with AAP for betraying the people of the State.
SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal welcomed the AAP leader into the party fold and described his joining as a big boost to the party. "This is yet another proof of which way political and social winds in Punjab are blowing," he said.
Senior Akali leaders Bikram Singh Majithia, Bibi Jagjir Kaur and Bibi Upinderjit Kaur were also present on the occasion.
Badal said that the remaining fragments of the AAP as well as Sukhpal Singh Khaira's PEP, the so-called Taksalis etc stood fully exposed as the B, C and D teams of the Congress
Later addressing election gatherings in Moga to garner support for party candidate from Faridkot Gulzar Singh Ranike, the SAD chief said this election would see the expression of public outrage against Amarinder 's neglect of the development of the state and the welfare of its people. This will also be a mandate on the betrayal by Capt Amarinder Singh on all the promises he had made under oath of the sacred charan of Dashmesh Pita Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji Maharaj.
"He promised complete waiver of all loans of all farmers, job to at least one member of every family, social welfare pension of Rs 2500, Shagun amount of Rs 51000, unemployment allowance of Rs 2500 to jobless youth among other things. Today he has gone back on every promise," Badal said.
Striking a personal note, he said, "I am straightforward 'desi' type of a man and I like to share my dreams with the people. I promise big and I deliver big. You can see it in the works fine during the SAD BJP tenure."
The SAD chief came down heavily against the Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress government for closing down 800 schools, most rural seva kendras, all schools for meritorious poor students, free cycles for school girls, SC scholarships, Shagun and pensions and all other pro-people schemes of SAD-BJP government.
He said that when SAD-BJP got the next opportunity to serve the people of Punjab, all Punjab villages would be given water supply, sewerage, street lights and concrete streets at par with urban areas.
Badal said that the country needs a strong and decisive Prime Minister. “If the enemies of the country are not afraid of the Prime Minister of a country, then the country will come to grief today or tomorrow. Mr Modi showed Pakistan what to expect if they don't stop terrorist attacks against India," he said. (UNI)
