Moga, Apr 17 : Former MP Jagmeet Singh Brar, who earlier served as Congress Working Committee (CWC) member and later joined the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) as the ad-hoc president of the party’s state unit in November 2016, will join the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on April 19.
Confirming the development, Mr Brar said that both the SAD and its ally BJP offered him to join their party but he preferred to accept the SAD officer.
Mr Brar said he would join the SAD on April 19 in the presence of SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal, Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and former minister Bikram Singh Majithia.
After resigning from the Congress, the former MP joined the All India Trinamool Congress and became the ad hoc president of the party in November 2016.
Earlier, talks were also held for his joining the Aam Adami Party (AAP) but the dialogue failed.
A SAD source said that the party would field Jagmeet Singh Brar from Ferozepur Lok Sabha consituncy.
Interestingly, Jagmeet Singh Brar had defeated Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal from Faridkot Lok Sabha seat in 1999 but the SAD chief avenged his defeat in 2004 elections and defeated Brar from Faridkot Lok Sabha constituency.UNI
