Jalandhar, Mar 31 : The district administration has decided to deploy 243 Campus ambassadors appointed under Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme and volunteers of National Service Scheme (NSS) and cadets of National Cadet Corps (NCC) to assist the persons with disability (PWD) voters so that they can cast their votes in this general elections in a hassle-free manner.
In a review meeting on Sunday to take stock of the arrangements for PWD voters, Additional Deputy Commissioners Kulwant Singh and Jasbir Singh said that nodal officers of SVEEP program in all nine assembly constituencies will ensure complete registration of each PWD voter and they will also monitor the pick and drop facility for such voters on May 19, the day of polling personally.
They said that nodal officers will also create awareness in their respective areas through NSS volunteers and NCC cadets so that no PWD voter to be left behind and they can take part actively in the election process.
They informed that administration is already in process to install ramps, availability of wheelchairs and helpers will be deployed at all 1863 polling booths. Further, NGOs will also be roped in for the smooth conduct of all process, they added.
The PWD voters can either apply by downloading the PWD app on their mobile phones or could apply through their respective Booth Level Officers (BLOs) or can call on 1950.
They informed that there were 11,197 PWD voters across the district and the administration is duty-bound to make special arrangements to facilitate PWD voters at the polling booths across the district.
