Chandigarh, Jan 13: The Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday demanded the state government to immediately arrest Akali leader Virsa Singh Valtoha, for his alleged involvement in the murder case of Dr Trehan of Patti in 1983.

In a statement issued from the party headquarters, AAP MLA Meet Hayer and president of the party's youth wing Manjinder Singh Sidhu demanded that Valtoha must be arrested without any delay and his whole property must be seized by the administration.

The AAP leaders said that a case was registered against Valtoha on the statement of people arrested in the murder case by the police, but no action was taken after that. They said even after passing of more than 35 years, no action has been taken against Valtoha.

They said it was shocking to know that a person involved in a murder case was roaming freely for so many years and was also elected as MLA twice.

Mr Sidhu said it was condemnable that police did not take any action against Valtoha, even after he was announced a proclaimed offender by the police itself. He demanded the Election Commission to register a case against Valtoha, for lying in his election nomination papers.

The AAP leaders demanded that the case must be re-opened and a thorough investigation should be initiated without any delay. They said the police and civil administration officers, who tried to save Valtoha, must also be put behind the bars.

A person who called himself a 'terrorist' on the floor of Punjab Vidhan Sabha, was roaming freely, even after committing several crimes, Mr Sidhu said, adding that it raises a serious question over the working of police and civil administration in Punjab.

He said the case also exposes the bonhomie between the Captain and the Badals, who together saved a criminal. He demanded that passport of Valtoha must be seized, so that he is not able to flee abroad. (UNI)
