Jalandhar, Dec 23 : Border Security Force on Sunday seized a big haul of contraband suspected to be heroin and some arms and ammunition from the area of responsibility near BoP Post Karma in Ferozepur sector.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Frontier BSF Head Quarter here said that the BSF troops recovered 17 kg heroin, two Pakistan made pistols and 26 live cartridges during search operation carried out in the area of BoP Karma.
He said that the BSF men observed movement of some suspicious persons ahead of Border Security Fence early this morning. The suspected persons alleged to be smugglers fled from the scene taking advantage of dense fog and smog when were challenged by the BSF sleuths.
Immediately, a search operation was conducted during which heroin weighing 17 kg and two pistols besides 26 live cartridges were recovered.
Value of the heroin is said to be 85 crore in the international market.
During the current calendar year till today, the BSF had seized more than 221 kg heroin having a value of Rs 1103 crore in the international market, the spokesperson added. (UNI)
