Rakshabhandhan makes labourer crorepati

Chandigarh, Sep 6: Even a man can receive an unexpected gift on Rakshabandhan festival.

Labourer Manoj Kumar of Mandvi village from Sangrur district can never forget this year's Rakshabandhan festival as he became a crorepati overnight winning the first prize of Rs 1.5 crore in the Punjab State Rakhi Bumper-2018 lucky draw.

The bumper was announced on August 29 at Ludhiana. Manoj could not believe his eyes as he matched his ticket number with the winning ticket number.

He met Lotteries Director T P S Phoolka here on Wednesday and submitted his claim for the prize money. The Director assured him that the payment would be made at the earliest.

Manoj said he could not have imagined winning such a big amount in the wildest of dreams. The daily wager from Sangrur said he had borrowed money to purchase the ticket.

Expressing faith in the fair and transparent manner in which the state government had conducted the draw, Manoj said with the big prize money, he would be able to tide over the financial problems his family was facing. (UNI)
