Puducherry, May 31 : Nine more people including a Jipmer doctor were tested positive for the Coronavirus on Sunday taking the total number of active cases in the Union Territory to 46, Director Medical Services (DMS) Mohan Kumar said here on Sunday. Talking to the media, Dr Kumar further said of the 46 patients, 36 were being treated at the Indira Gandhi Government Medical college here, nine at Jipmer hospital and one patient in Salem, Tamil Nadu.
He stated that two each people were tested positive at Solai Nagar, Jipmer and one each from Annai Teresa Nagar,Thilagar Nagar,Kombakkam,Periyakalapet Vadamangalam and Jipmer campus tested positive for the virus. He further stated that a doctor working in the COVID ward at Jipmer was tested positive adding that this is the fist time that a doctor got infected by the virus in the Union Territory. Dr Kumar affirmed that following nine persons testing positive the containment zones rose to 23.
He further affirmed that that there would be no relaxation of lockdown in the containment zones till June 30 while in other areas relaxation would be given in a phased manner. He added that so far 70 persons were affected by the virus of which 24 were cured and discharged. (UNI)
