Puducherry, May 30 : Stating that financial regeneration should be the top priority for Puducherry, Lt.Governor Kiran Bedi on Saturday said that as an immediate measure we need to revisit current policies which deny the government its own legitimate income.
In an open letter to the Puducherrians on completion of her four years in office as the Lt.Governor of Puducherry today and entering the fifth year, the Lt.Governor said auctioning of IMFL licence, recovery of arrears of Cable TV tax, property tax, power tariff, arrears, etc. besides revisiting rental and licence fees, lying unaddressed for years, privatizing our prime tourist loss incurring properties to earn revenue and implementation of Vijayan Committee report on loss making PSUs need to be initiated. Alongside, the guidance which has come from the Government of India in five trachea, which covers farmers, agricultural produce, storage, marketing and among other things need to be followed, she said.
The current situation needs a sincere implementation with a willingness to serve by public officials appointed and elected, Ms Bedi added. Most of all for Puducherians to realize their own responsibility of well being, COVID could well prove to be a transformative vaccine, she said, adding that for her the countdown has begun as she entered the fifth year of serving Puducherry. Recalling her activities in the last four years, the Lt. Governor said that it is history documented and available for successors. She also thanked the people and public officials for their support even in trying circumstances. (UNI)
