One more test positive for COVID-19 in UT : Minister

Puducherry, May 28 : One more person was tested positive for Coronavirus here on Thursday taking the total number of active cases in the Union Territory to 40, Health Minister Malladi Krishna Rao said on Thursday. Talking to news persons here, the Minister said that a nine-year-old boy from Mannadipet was tested positive. He contracted the virus through a contact as a person in his family was tested positive, Mr Rao said. As many as 6808 sample tests of persons were conducted so far and of which 6711 people came out negative and the result of the rest was awaited.

He said a meeting with Chief Secretary, Health Secretary and other senior officials will be conducted here this evening to assess the work done so far and to chalk out modalities to further improve the functioning of the government medical college, which is the exclusive COVID-19 hospital here. Health Secretary Prasanth Kumar Panda said that the public have to play an important role in containing the spread of virus. People should come forward to help the government by informing if anyone come to their neighbourhood from abroad or from other states.

Till date, because of good practices, we manage to contain the spread of the virus to some extent, he added. Director of Medical Services Dr Mohan Kumar said that the coordinated work by the Central and State governments, Health department and the public after May 31 will only help to contain the spread of the virus. About 90 percent responsibility is with the public, he said, adding that the e-pass system be followed strictly and they should wear masks by maintaining social distancing and sanitize their hands.
