Puducherry, May 28 : Volunteers of the Communist Party of India (CPI) on Thursday held a demonstration in front of the Electricity Department Head Office here to press their demands. They were demanding among other things the immediate withdrawal of the power tariff hike and also the surcharge on it.

Led by CPI State Secretary Saleem, the volunteers shouted slogans in support of their demands. According to them, the hike of 30 paise a unit above 300 units will put an additional financial burden to the tune of a few hundred rupees on the consumers as 80 percent of the consumers in Puducherry use above 300 units a month. Further the surcharge was also made permanent, they charged. (UNI)
