Govt ignoring interests of farmers : Anbazahgan alleges

Agency News

Puducherry, May 20 : AIADMK legislature party leader A Anbazhagan on Wednesday alleged that the government is ignoring the interests of farmers and is concentrating only on opening liquor shops in the Union Territory. In a statement here, Mr Anbazhagan said the Tamil Nadu government had announced the opening of Mettur dam on June 12 and before that it had de-silted all the channels and completed maintenance works to ensure the free flow of water.

However, the government here has not taken any steps to ensure that the water reaches Karaikal, the tail end of Cauvery. Pointing out that not even a single canal or channel was de-silted by the Puducherry government ,he urged the administration to take up the work on a war-footing. Reiterating that the AIADMK will oppose any cut in the salary of government employees here in view of fall of Revenue due to Coronavirus pandemic, Mr Anbazhagan said the issue was discussed in the Cabinet meeting held recently and all, except PWD Minister Namassivayam, supported the deduction.

Taking exception to the retrenchment of over 150 workers of Krishi Vigayan Kendra (KVK) here recently, the AIADMK leader said this is an ‘inhuman act" which is against agriculture and agriculturists. More than 50 months' salary was pending for the retrenched workers, he said and demanded their reinstatement after paying the pending salary. (UNI)
